Today is National Pecan Pie Day.

The Native Americans used pecans more than 8,000 years ago according to the Archaeological evidence found in Texas.

The Native American Quinipissa and Tangipahoa tribes introduced the pecan to the French after they settled in New Orleans. Some have stated that the French invented the pecan pie. Others have said that the pecan pie existed in Alabama in the 1800’s, but there are not any recipes to document this.

The Pecan Pie is a staple of the Southern U.S.

Texas proclaimed The Pecan Pie its official dessert in 2013. The Pecan Tree is the official tree of Texas and is also the official nut.
