  1. National Gingerbread Day

    Armenian Monk Gregory of Nicopolis invented Gingerbread and brought it to Europe in 992. In France he taught the French Christians how to make gingerbread until his death in 999, interestingly the gingerbread did not include ginger. Catholic monks were the first to add the spicy ginger root to gingerbread. Ginger spread throughout Europe from Malaysia, after the 11th century. The Catholic monks placed the cookie dough into molds depicting saints and religious scenes. Today is National Gingerbread Day!
